DFM Research

Status: Active
Last synthesized: April 2026
Purpose: Home for the manufacturability-intelligence work that feeds RapidDraft directly.

What This Section Is For

DFM Research is the main manufacturing-intelligence layer behind RapidDraft. It combines rules-based geometry analysis, drawing-aware vision work, and manufacturing knowledge so the product can generate findings that are traceable and grounded in real process logic.

Open First

Current vs Reference

  • Current: active rule-bundle structure, pipeline architecture, handbook pages, and manufacturing overlays
  • Current: this is an active feeder track for RapidDraft rather than an isolated research shelf
  • Current: injection molding now has a live plastics rules-bar view, Light/Deep scan control, scan-depth-aware Part Facts, product-vs-tooling gating, and a five-rule J_BOOK_PLASTICS pack active for plastics
  • Current: DFM review has been normalized to one STEP-only path in the active UI; the old Input scope and advanced LLM selector are no longer part of the review workflow
  • Current: long geometry extraction now reports scanner-level status, timing, cache state, and selected-component scope checks so heavy STEP scans are less of a black box
  • Reference: the deep rule and traceability pages are valuable, but they are best used after the architecture and handbook entry pages
