Status: Current operating model for Drawing Lab

Authority: Current contract for Detection and Understand; stage names follow the wiki surface plan

Question

What is the simple Drawing Lab model from source drawing to reviewed truth?

Short answer

The lab uses four stages in order.

flowchart LR
    A[Extraction] --> B[Detection]
    B --> C[Understand]
    C --> D[Validate]
    D --> E[Reviewed evidence and truth]

Extraction captures page evidence and review inputs. Detection produces independently observable evidence. Understand groups evidence and assigns engineering meaning. Validate compares results with human-reviewed truth.

Stage map

Stage Receives Does Produces Does not claim
Extraction Source drawing and capture settings Retains page evidence and review regions Detection inputs with page coordinates Semantic object types as truth
Detection Extraction inputs and caches Finds mechanical evidence OCR, geometry, proposals, possible dimensions Confirmed engineering meaning
Understand Detection evidence and review state Assigns type, ownership, and relationships Typed tables, dimensions, and links Validated accuracy by itself
Validate Understood objects and review truth Measures accuracy and usefulness Reviewed metrics and acceptance decisions That software tests equal validation

First-class product sections

Table Detection and Dimension Detection are first-class sections. Both follow the same stage boundary. Both keep comparison methods visible. Both require human review before accuracy claims.

Open Questions

  • Will Extraction remain a separate lab stage name in product UI copy, or only in this operating model?
