Question¶

What does Understand receive, do, produce, and refuse to claim?

Short answer¶

Understand groups Detection evidence. It assigns ownership and relationships. It proposes engineering meaning. It does not turn a detector score into validated truth by itself.

Receives¶

Verified or reviewed table regions
Possible-dimension bundles and related mechanical clues
OCR readings and geometry evidence with page coordinates
Append-only human review decisions

Does¶

Assigns table type, headers, values, and title-block fields after structure and cell OCR exist
Assigns dimension type, parsed value, and units
Assigns view ownership and measured-feature ownership
Records ambiguity and confidence
Keeps incomplete evidence visible instead of hiding it

Produces¶

Typed table understanding candidates
Typed dimension understanding candidates
Relationship proposals across objects on the sheet

Does not claim¶

That Detection possible dimensions are already confirmed
That provider scores equal engineering meaning
That Understand output is validated accuracy
That software tests alone accept the result

Next stage receives¶

Validate receives understood objects, review truth, and measured metrics. Validate decides what the product may claim after human-reviewed evidence.

Current boundary for dimensions¶

Detection may show possible dimensions. The Detection UI must continue to say 0 confirmed dimensions until Understand assembles membership and ownership. See Detection Versus Understand.

Open Questions¶

Which Understand fields become mandatory before a sheet can enter formal validation?
