Extraction

Status: Current lab input stage; region-first vectorization remains stopped

Authority: Accepted decision DL-010 and current Detection input contracts

Last reviewed: 2026-08-14

Question

What does Extraction receive, do, produce, and refuse to claim?

Short answer

Extraction captures page evidence from a source drawing. It prepares Detection inputs. It keeps page coordinates. It does not claim finished engineering meaning.

Receives

  • A source drawing page or prepared raster capture
  • Capture settings and extractor identity
  • Optional human click or review-region selection for cleanup experiments

Does

  • Retains ink and paper evidence for later stages
  • Builds reviewable input regions without inventing a new coordinate system
  • Keeps method, settings, and provenance with the capture
  • Preserves the protected whole-sheet vectorizer as a separately identified baseline

Produces

  • Detection inputs with page coordinates
  • Cached page rasters and masks where the lab stores them
  • Accounting regions such as working area and side or corner partitions when those experiments run

Does not claim

  • That a retained region is a typed information island
  • That a working-area rectangle is semantic truth
  • That region-first local vectorization is accepted
  • That Extraction accuracy equals validated product accuracy

Next stage receives

Detection receives Extraction inputs, caches, and review state. Detection may reuse those caches without regenerating every full-page layer.

Important retained history

Whole-sheet processing remains a baseline. Raw information-island accounting remains a retained doctrine. Human-scale region usefulness failed the frozen gate, so region-first assembly stayed stopped. See Whole Sheet to Information Islands.
